Mental health and your gut!
How does what I eat have anything to do with what's going on with my mental health?(Noting‼️Mental health disorders like anxiety and depression are complex and there is usually not just one contributing factor, but having this information and applying it can indeed help you start feeling better)
Here’s why what you eat matters 👉🏼 Years of research has confirmed the highway between the brain and your gut aka bidirectional communication between your central nervous system and gut microbiota, is known as the gut-brain-axis. The food you consume can either nourish the good bacteria cultivating mind- body systematic balance (watch my reel Gut Health 101 part 3 for a list of nourishing foods) or it can promote overgrowth of bad bacteria in your gut which is known as gut dysbiosis. When the gut is out of balance and experiencing dysbiosis from things like antibiotics, high stress, poor sleep, high sugary and processed foods (watch my reel Part 4 for a list of 13 Gut Health Killers) the gut then sends out negative chemical signals on the gut-brain axis highway leading to things like hormonal imbalance, mental health disorders, metabolic & digestive disorders and more.
So when Ancient Greek physician Hippocrates stated “All disease begins in the gut” he simultaneously meant health starts in the gut as well. If you think your gut health may be out of whack and don’t know where to even being bringing it back into balance click the link in my bio to work with me through my Gut Health origin series where we get to the root of your gut dysbiosis and set you up with a step by step plan to regain your gut health unique to your specific health and body.
